Hello Kitty – the Japanese bobtail cat with a bow in her hair and a cult following – is now gracing the walls, furniture and tableware at China’s first Hello Kitty-themed restaurant in Beijing, which recently opened its bright pink doors.
Sporting Kitty-shaped couch-style seats, bubblegum pink tablecloths and prints of the little cartoon cat on its walls, ‘Hello Kitty Dreams restaurant’ has proved so popular, diners have been told to ring its hotline to try and secure a table, China Daily reports.
Staff have even taken on Japan’s love of dressing up, with waitresses wearing pink dresses and waiters donning white shirts with a bow and blue rompers, respectively.
The fairytale dining room recently opened at the western-style shopping complex of Sanlitun Village in the Chinese capital.
China also plans to build a Hello Kitty theme park west of Shanghai in Zhejiang province, which is due to open in 2014.
