As the smog problems in China persist, the country`s citizens keep coming up with innovative ways to draw attention to their massive pollution problem. One Beijing artist came up with a surefire way to make an important statement about access to clean air.

Liang Kegang was recently on trip to France when he decided that since the fresh air felt so good for his lungs, he would put it in a jar and sell it. The artist put it on auction for roughly 100 fellow artists in March and the small jar of air eventually sold for 5,250 yuan ($860). The move, which is being seen as much as a protest as a gimmick, has once again drawn attention to the extremely poor air quality in China.

Liang Kegang said about selling the jar of air, "Air should be the most valueless commodity, free to breathe for any vagrant or beggar. This is my way to question China`s foul air and express my dissatisfaction."
