Weddings are known for their beauty, elegance, and celebration of love
oh, and the fortune it typically costs to have one.
One of the most daunting thoughts when preparing for a wedding is, How are we going to be able to afford this?
Reddit user alkikat is a bride-to-be who has chosen to be thrifty with her wedding expenses by designing and making her wedding dress from scratch all by herself and by hand. She included these pictures and a video in her Reddit post.
During her morning bus commute to work, she crocheted her lace wedding dress by using a pineapple stitch apparently a fairly common design. It took her five months, but once it was done, it was breath-taking.
She explains part of the process in her Reddit post:
The dress was practically free because I didnt spend much money on it (under $30 for all of the materials including fabric for the lining) and I didnt spend much extra time on it. My commute time couldnt be used for anything else anyway. The dress is also machine washable (Ive washed it several times), doesnt wrinkle or need any special care, and I plan on wearing it again with linings of different colors and with the train bustled up in different ways.
Here is the final result! Isnt it stunning? Would you even believe she made that by hand and on a bus? This goes to show the untapped talent so many humans possess. This bride should be proud of what she has accomplished!
Here is a quick timelapse of the dress being pieced together:
