A 23-Year-Old Became A Father And A Grandfather -- All In The Span Of A Few Weeks

If we told you that a 23-year-old became a father and a grandfather over the course of a few weeks, you might not believe us, right? But shockingly enough, this story is true...and it`s honestly pretty amazing.

Although they were friends as children, Tommy Connolly eventually lost touch with his cousin Amy (not her real name), who is now 17 years old. After many years, Connolly received a Facebook message from Amy.

At the time, Connolly was a 23-year-old student at Australia`s Sunshine Coast University.

In college, he ran track and worked full time. His cousin, however, didn`t have the opportunity to lead such a normal life.

At 17, Amy was homeless and functionally illiterate. She also struggled with drug addiction — and she was pregnant. She stopped using drugs upon finding out about the pregnancy, but she still had nowhere to go. She had grown up in and out of foster care, and didn`t have any stable parental figures in her life until she reconnected with her cousin.

Connolly drove down to where Amy was living and picked her up. Over lunch, she shared her heartbreaking story. "It made me really upset," Connolly recalls. "I was frustrated that I didn`t know earlier. It made me want to do whatever it took to help her. It made any problems I ever had seem irrelevant, because the life she has had is so intense. My focus just immediately turned to her."

Without any hesitation, Connolly arranged to legally adopt Amy.

She came to live with him, and a few weeks later, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The new family set up a GoFundMe campaign (now closed) to collect donations for Amy and her son, and the new family is doing well.

For her part, Amy describes herself as the "luckiest girl in the world," and says that she and her baby now have a shot at a normal life thanks to her cousin`s compassion and generosity. "All I wanted was to give this little man a better life than I had," she wrote on Facebook. "A second chance was all I wanted. Thank you, Tommy, for everything, and for helping me with my spelling."
