Filmmaker implants camera in eye to become 'Eyeborg'

A one-eyed filmmaker is going to implant a camera in his eye to make a film from his point of view. Rob Spence, a documentary filmmaker from Canada, has been unable to use his right eye since it was damaged in a firearms accident as a child.

After wearing an eyepatch for many years, he recently got a prosthetic eye implanted – and decided he wanted to become what he calls an "Eyeborg" – a part-human, part-camera cyborg. Spence wants to use the camera to explore privacy issues, calling himself a "human surveillance machine."

At a recent conference in Brussels, he said the eye camera would be the best way to make a connection with a documentary subject. Yet surveillance could be more of an issue for Spence when he becomes an "Eyeborg".

It’s 54-inches, it’s plasma, it’s just 1-inch thick and it’s got wireless HDMI - are you really all that surprised that the Panasonic Z1 Plasma HDTV is expensive? Early pricing for the Panasonic TC-P54Z1 suggests it’ll cost a cool $5,999.95 when it begins shipping in June.

For that $6k you get 54-inches of Full HD 1080p, a native contrast ratio of 40,000:1, 24Hz Cinematic Playback and THX Certification.  There’s also Neo PDP low-energy panel technology (you’ll probably want to save on power bills after shelling out for the set) and included speakers and stand.

The wireless HDMI box - which is included with the Z1 - not only funnels video and audio from your DVD, Blu-ray or Media Center PC to the HDTV, but has VIERA Link Internet connectivity and a VIERA Link SD card reader too.  That all means that the only cable required to your new wall-mounted $6k Panasonic is the one providing power.

A prototype Panasonic plasma put the Z1 to shame by slimming down the panel depth to one third of an inch.

The LG Versa emerged on the web a couple of weeks ago and now this unique phone is officially official.  It's in fact a 2 in 1 device, a bit like the HTC Advantage, that can be used without a keyboard or with a full QWERTY keyboard if needed for texting.

It obviously has a 3" touchscreen, (OLED with a 480 x 240 resolution), 2MPix camera module, GPS, and is EV-DO (CDMA).

Other features include support for Verizon's V Cast Music with Rhapsody, V Cast Video, Visual Voice Mail, GPS with VZ Navigator, a 2.0-megapixel camera with face detection and built-in image editor, a microSD card slot with up to 16GB support, a USB mass storage mode, full Bluetooth connectivity with stereo sound, threaded messaging and a drawing pad.

LG and Verizon hope to release even more attachments for the Versa in the future. There are talks of releasing an external speaker attachment for music and a game pad controller for games. The Versa will be available online and in stores on March 1 for $199.99, after a two-year agreement and a $50 mail-in rebate.
